Vehicle Registration Plates

Vehicle Registration Plates have become part of our everyday life. Number plates are used as identification numbers for the vehicles and bikes. Nowadays it is issued officially by the government. Number plate system is used for governing road-going vehicles.

Introduction:

In the late 19th century, the government introduces vehicle license plates. License plates were introduced for the identification of transport vehicles. The first implementation was by France in 1893, in 1896 pursue by Germany, in 1900 the Netherlands and Spain, the United States in 1901 and Britain in 1904.

In Singapore and Malaysia, during the British colonial days, the license plate policy came into being.

Computerized number plates introduced in Pakistan in 2006. 9, 00, 00 blank number plates had purchased from a German company.

Over the years, features, for instance, the design, font, security features of plates have changed, to keep with the times and the advancements in technology. The standard size of the License plates around the whole world is of 6×14 inches

Early license plates were made of ceramic material which was rather fragile. It was then changed to fiberboard, aluminium and even iron.

Since 1923, the government has taken the responsibility to choose fonts, styles and unique design of elements, so that it would be difficult to be copied.

Number Plates

Design of Vehicle Registration Plates:

Usually, number plates have alphabets followed by numbers. It can also have some symbols or slogans allowed by the judiciary system. Some logos had also used to differentiate the numbers plates of different areas. Different colors had also used for the same purpose. Number plates come in different sizes.

NUMBER PLATES ON CARS AND FOUR WHEEL VEHICLES:

FONT SIZE, MEASUREMENT AND SPACING:

On the front side, the background of the number plate must be white and the characters on the plate must be of black color. Moreover, On the backside, the background of the number plate must be yellow reflective and the characters on the plate must be of black color.

Following are some characteristics of number plate:

  • The characters must have some height of 79mm
  • The characters must have some width of 79mm
  • The space between the characters is of 11mm
  • The space between the groups is of 33mm

There is a wide variety of colors for number plates. Assigning colors to vehicles number plates is an awesome idea. Different countries have different color techniques for number plates.

IN FEDERAL:

Following are some description about colors of number plates in Federal:

  • GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN:  

The background of the plate is green, letters and numbers on the plates are white.

  • FOREIGN DIPLOMATS: 

The background of the plate is red, letters and numbers on the plates are white.

  • ARMED FORCES OF PAKISTAN: 

The background of the plate is green, letters and numbers on the plates are black.

  • MINISTRIES OF PAKISTAN:

The background of the plate is green, letters and numbers on the plates are white.

  • POLICE:

The background of the plate is blue, letters and numbers on the plates are white

IN PUNJAB:

Following are some description about colors of number plates in Punjab:

  • CARS:

The background of the plate is white, letters and numbers on the plates are black. On the left side, there is a green banner and at the bottom, “Punjab” is written. A special image of provincial flower “Datura Metel” is also present on the above side.

  • Motorcycles:

The background of the plate is white, letters and numbers on the plates are black. On the left side, there is a green banner and at the bottom, “Punjab” is written. A special image of provincial flower “Datura Metel” is also present on the above side.

  • PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

The background of the plate is yellow, letters and numbers on the plates are black. On the left side, there is a green banner and at the bottom, “Punjab” is written. A special image of provincial flower “Datura Metel” is also present on the above side.

  • GOVERNMENT:

Rules for Legal Number Plates:

Following rules must be followed while you are getting your personalized number plate

Font:

Only the ‘Charles Wright 2001’ font is allowed

Height and Width:

Apart from the letter ‘I’ and the number ‘1’, characters must be 79mm high and 50mm wide. The width of each character stroke must be 14mm and you must be able to measure 11mm between each character in the same grouping. Additionally, character groups must also be 33m apart, etc.

Background:

Front plates must have a white background with black characters and rear plates must have a yellow background with black characters.

Era:

Most importantly, Cars that were manufactured before 1973 can use number plates of that era’s style.

Effects:

Moreover, the use of 3D effects is permissible.

 

Illegal number plates:

Following are the mistakes that can mark your number plates as illegal.

The Wrong color:

If you are using the wrong color then certainly your number plate will be considered illegal by the authorities.

Wrong Spacing:

The spacing between letters and numbers must be according to rules.

Wrong font:

Only one type of font is allowed. If you are using any other font other than that, you will be caught the attention of road police.

An illegal background

Using a non-conforming background that isn’t a plain color, or stickers which interfere with the plate’s legibility.

An invalid flag:

If you are using a flag which is not allowed, your number plate will be considered illegal, etc.
